A 19-year-old college student, Sampa alias Iti Das, allegedly died by suicide at her home in Daspara village, Bauphal, Patuakhali, on Monday night. She was a first-year undergraduate student at Government Syed Hatem Ali College in Barisal. Her body was found hanging, and doctors declared her dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Earlier that day, Iti and a friend were harassed at a restaurant near the upazila public field by a group led by Hridoy Raihan, a Chhatra Dal leader. Witnesses, including restaurant staff, said the group made inappropriate comments, leading to a confrontation. Hridoy reportedly attempted to forcibly take Iti’s friend outside, and when she intervened, she was also mistreated. Locals gathered as the situation escalated, and police were called.

Police rescued Iti’s friend and took both to the station for questioning. They were released around 4 PM, but Iti remained visibly distressed. She went home and locked herself in her room, later found hanging by her mother. Her family believes humiliation drove her to take this step but has not filed a case out of fear.

Hridoy defended himself, claiming the duo was in an "objectionable state," but witnesses refuted this. The police filed a case of unnatural death and sent the body for an autopsy. Authorities stated that legal action would be taken if the family formally complained.
