The Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, has been described as “atheist and anti-Islamic,” leading to a defamation case being filed against Kushtia-3 MP Amir Hamza.
On Monday afternoon, former General Secretary of Sirajganj Sadar Upazila BNP, Advocate Nazmul Islam, filed a defamation case worth 10 billion taka (100 crore) in the Amli Court against the Jamaat-e-Islami MP.
The complainant told journalists that Amir Hamza recently publicly labeled BNP Standing Committee member and minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku as “atheist and anti-Islamic.” Following this statement, the defamation case was filed under Section 500 of the Penal Code.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Suman Karmakar has taken the case into consideration and kept it pending for further orders, according to the complainant.
