Nine Bangladeshis have been confirmed on Mamdani’s inauguration committee: Nagorik Andolan leader Kazi Fouzia, community organizer Abdul Aziz Bhuiyan, former police officer Shamsul Haque, Asal General Secretary Mohammad Karim Chowdhury, Farira Akhter, Arman Chowdhury CPA, Shahriar Rahman, Tajin Azad, Imran Pasha and Chumtali Haque.

If there are more Bangladeshis among the 400+ names on the committee, they could not be identified at the time of writing. It has been noticed that Bangladeshis have been placed in key roles within the transition team based on their respective contributions.

Efforts are ongoing to identify all Bangladeshi and South Asian members from the list. So far, 9 Bangladeshis, 11 Pakistanis and 16 Indians have been identified. Among the Indians and Pakistanis, there are 10 Punjabis, 4 Indo-Caribbeans, and one individual named Imran Pasha.

Notably, 98% of Bangladeshi Muslims in New York voted for Mamdani and actively worked for his campaign. In appreciation, 9 Bangladeshis were given positions in his inaugural team.

This marks a significant achievement for the Bangladeshi community in New York politics — a level of recognition they had never received before, especially considering how difficult it once was for Bangladeshis to be included in such prestigious committees.
