Yulduz and Fariba Hashimi, Afghan sisters and cyclists, have overcome significant challenges to qualify for the Paris Olympics, marking a historic first for Afghan cyclists, male or female. Despite facing opposition and danger while training in their home province of Faryab, they persisted, driven by their desire to advocate for Afghan women's rights on a global stage. Their journey, supported by their family and former world champion cyclist Alessandra Cappellotto, took them from Afghanistan to Switzerland and then to northern Italy, where they continued training. The sisters' participation in the Olympics is a defiance against the Taliban's restrictions on women, aiming to present a positive image of Afghan women to the world. Their achievements have inspired hope among fellow Afghan women cyclists and supporters, despite uncertain media coverage from Afghanistan.
