WhatsApp, the Meta-owned messaging platform, is preparing to introduce a new feature that enables file sharing on iOS devices without needing an internet connection. Similar to Apple’s Airdrop, this feature aims to simplify the process of sharing files. Initially tested for Android users, the feature is now expected to be available on iOS through the WhatsApp beta for iOS version 24.15.10.70 via the TestFlight beta program, as reported by WhatsApp update tracker WABetaInfo.

In the beta version, WhatsApp allows users to send files directly to nearby devices using a QR code, even in low-connectivity environments. This feature is anticipated to support cross-platform sharing between Android and iOS devices. The exact launch date remains unspecified as the feature is still in its early stages of development.

WhatsApp is also exploring other enhancements, including a feature for transferring chats between devices without relying on cloud services, as well as the option for users to create usernames for their profiles. This move is intended to provide users with more flexible ways to connect with others without the need for exchanging phone numbers.
