Hezbollah, an Iran-aligned Lebanese armed group, claimed responsibility for an attack on an Israeli military facility, injuring at least 14 soldiers. This action was in retaliation for Israeli strikes that killed Hezbollah members. Israel responded by targeting Hezbollah infrastructure in eastern Lebanon. The escalation followed Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon that killed three, including a Hezbollah commander. Earlier, Hezbollah wounded Israeli soldiers with explosives in Lebanese territory. These events mark a six-month period of heightened tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, coinciding with the Gaza conflict. Concerns over further escalation heightened after Iran's recent attack on Israel and subsequent Israeli airstrikes on the Iranian embassy in Damascus. Despite Western countries urging restraint, the risk of escalation persists. President Biden assured Israel of non-involvement in any counteroffensive against Iran.
