This Eid, bank branches will not provide new banknotes. According to sources, several parties have objected to the inclusion of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s image on the currency. In response, Bangladesh Bank has instructed banks to suspend the distribution of new banknotes ahead of Eid.

However, banknotes featuring Sheikh Mujibur Rahman that are already in circulation will remain valid. The central bank plans to introduce newly designed banknotes by next month.

In letters sent to various banks, Bangladesh Bank stated, “Ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the exchange of new banknotes among the public should be halted.” Banks have also been directed to store any new banknotes in their branches instead of distributing them. Additionally, the letter advised conducting all cash transactions using recirculated banknotes.
