New Banknotes Featuring Sher-E-Bangla to Release Within Few Weeks

Bangladesh Bank is preparing to release newly printed banknotes in the upcoming weeks as a tribute to the country’s national heroes. Among the redesigned notes, a Tk100 denomination featuring the image of Sher-e-Bangla A.K. Fazlul Huq has already been previewed. The printing of the new notes—covering denominations of Tk20, Tk100, Tk500, and Tk1000—was carried out following the directives issued by the interim government in December last year. These new issues are part of the central bank’s regular currency management process, which involves gradually phasing out old notes and replacing them with fresh ones. Interestingly, this year marks a departure from tradition, as the central bank did not release new banknotes during the recent religious festivals due to exceptionally high public demand during that period.
