State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit said the government increased fuel prices to curb smuggling to neighbouring countries and limit growing losses at Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC). Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, he said BPC incurred losses of around Tk22,875 crore from March to August 2026 as global oil prices rose amid the Middle East crisis.
