The world saw the highest number of armed conflicts since World War II in 2023!

The Peace Research Institute of Oslo (PRIO) reported that in 2023, the world witnessed 59 armed conflicts, the highest since World War II's end, driven by conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza. Africa saw 28 conflicts, with Asia and the Middle East following with 17 and 10, respectively. Non-state actors, notably ISIL (ISIS), contributed to the escalation. Conflict-related deaths halved to 122,000, yet remained the third highest since 1989. Over the past three decades, violence has surged, attributed to conflicts like Ethiopia's Tigray civil war, Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and the Gaza assault. PRIO emphasizes the increasing complexity of conflict landscapes, hindering aid and civil society efforts.
