Ireland, Spain, and Norway will recognize a Palestinian state on May 28, aiming to support a two-state solution for Middle East peace. Their announcement, supported by Palestinian officials but condemned by Israel, marks a significant stance in the European Union where many members have yet to officially recognize Palestine. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu criticized the move as rewarding terrorism and ordered the recall of Israeli ambassadors from the three nations.

The Irish, Norwegian, and Spanish leaders emphasized that their decision supports peaceful coexistence and is not anti-Israel. This move adds pressure on Israel, particularly amid ongoing violence and international criticism of its military actions in Gaza. U.S. President Biden supports a two-state solution but believes it should come from direct negotiations, not unilateral recognition. Germany and France also questioned the timing and implications of this recognition. This decision highlights the growing impatience with Israel's stance on the two-state solution and the increasing international support for Palestinian statehood.
