A tragic road accident in Cumilla city claimed the life of a 22-year-old youth, Emon Sarkar, just a day after he joined his first job. The incident took place around 11:30am on Monday (22 April) at the Tomsom Bridge Rammala area, when Emon and his elder brother Sumon Sarkar were walking towards the bridge. A battery-run auto-rickshaw suddenly hit them at the Rammala Water Tank Intersection, causing Emon to fall onto the road. Moments later, a covered van coming from behind ran over him, killing him on the spot. Sumon, who also works at the same company, sustained injuries and was hospitalised.

Both brothers hailed from Brahmanbaria’s Kasba Upazila and were living in a rented home in Cumilla city’s Kotbari area. Emon had just joined the company as a salesperson, according to their cousin Fahad Sarkar. Following the accident, locals gathered at the scene, blockaded the road, and attempted to rescue the victims. However, the drivers of both the auto-rickshaw and the van fled the area.

Police and army personnel later arrived, brought the situation under control, and impounded the two vehicles. Kandirpar police outpost in-charge Rakibul Islam confirmed that Emon’s body was sent to Cumilla Medical College Hospital for autopsy, and further legal procedures were underway.
