The initiative aims to prevent students from losing an entire academic year because of failure in a limited number of subjects. The Education Minister made the announcement on Saturday during the official publication ceremony of the HSC and equivalent examination results at the Secretariat. According to the minister, a total of 298,040 students failed in one subject, while another 124,865 failed in two subjects. Combined, these figures account for 422,905 students out of the 594,113 candidates who failed this year. He stated that the government had decided to arrange examinations for these students within approximately one month. The initiative is intended to give unsuccessful candidates another opportunity to improve their results without having to wait until the next annual examination cycle. Although education boards are reportedly preparing to organize the examinations within seven days, the minister indicated that the government would allow students up to one month to prepare. He explained that conducting the examinations within just seven or fifteen days would not provide candidates with sufficient time to study properly. However, he also pointed out that delaying the examinations for too long could affect undergraduate admission schedules. Therefore, the government intends to determine a suitable examination timeline that balances students' preparation needs with the academic calendar. He added that the examinations would not be postponed beyond one month, even though a considerable number of students would be sitting for two subjects. Re-examinations can provide significant benefits to students who have failed in one or two subjects in the HSC and equivalent examinations. This initiative offers them an additional opportunity to demonstrate their academic knowledge and improve their results without having to wait for another full academic year. It can also help reduce the academic and financial pressures associated with repeating the entire examination cycle. At the same time, failing an examination can create emotional stress, disappointment, and uncertainty about the future. A second opportunity can provide students with renewed motivation and a constructive way forward. Students can also remain connected to their educational goals and maintain their academic momentum rather than facing an extended interruption in their studies. Meanwhile, the Education Minister discussed the ongoing changes in the country's examination evaluation system. Following an amendment to the Public Examinations Act of 1980, arrangements have been made to review examination records for students who apply for re-evaluation, beginning with this year's Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations. The re-evaluation process has resulted in significant changes to students' published results, raising concerns about the accuracy and consistency of the original assessment system. Addressing the issue at Saturday's press conference, Milon said that applications for SSC examination result re-evaluation would be accepted from November 1 to 7. Providing details of the recent SSC re-evaluation process, the minister revealed that approximately 1.3 million examination papers had been submitted for review. Following the reassessment, around 45,000 students experienced changes in their grades. Of these, approximately 5,000 candidates who had initially failed were declared successful, while another 3,079 students achieved GPA-5. The minister emphasized the importance of examining why such a large number of results changed after reassessment. He said the government would review the overall examination system, including the training provided to examiners and the procedures for evaluating answer scripts. He also indicated that measures were being considered to strengthen accountability and introduce appropriate disciplinary action in cases involving significant inconsistencies in marking. The proposed reforms are expected to focus on improving the reliability, transparency, and consistency of public examination assessments while ensuring that students receive accurate results for their academic performance.
