During the operation, law enforcement officers seized various types of equipment and chemical substances reportedly used in the production of the illegal drug. A 32-year-old man, identified as Nazmul Islam Bappi, was arrested in connection with the incident. He was detained during a police raid conducted at approximately 1:30 am on Friday, October 30, in the Pagar (Alektek) area of Tongi. Bappi is the son of Taijul Islam and a resident of the same locality. He returned to Bangladesh from abroad several years ago. Following his return, he became involved in a romantic relationship with a young woman. He claimed that emotional distress following difficulties in the relationship led him to develop a drug addiction. Subsequently, he allegedly decided to establish a facility for manufacturing yaba. Bappi told investigators that he gathered information about the production of yaba through online platforms, including Facebook, YouTube, and other internet sources. He then allegedly used the information to establish a manufacturing facility on his own. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tongi East Police Station, Mohammad Maksudul Alam, said that police had been keeping the suspect's residence under surveillance for several days after receiving confidential information about his alleged activities. Acting on the information, officers conducted a raid at the house early Friday and discovered what appeared to be a yaba manufacturing facility. According to the OC, investigators found equipment and chemical substances suspected of being used in yaba production on the fourth floor of Bappi's residential building. Police also recovered several other materials allegedly collected for manufacturing the illegal drug. The officer further stated that the premises contained a laboratory and a concealed room. The room had reportedly been constructed within the building in a manner that made it difficult to detect or access easily. During preliminary questioning, Bappi allegedly admitted to collecting various chemical substances with the intention of manufacturing yaba. Police have taken the suspect into custody in connection with the discovery and are investigating the matter further.
