Ritu Khatun, an SSC candidate from the humanities group at Hakimpur Secondary School in Chaugachha, Jashore, has secured a GPA-5 despite losing her father during the examination period.
Her father, Kabir Hossain, died of cancer at Jashore General Hospital on the morning of her history exam on May 10. However, her family chose not to tell her until she returned from the exam centre. After saying a final goodbye to her father, Ritu went on to complete her remaining exams while carrying the grief of her loss.
Though proud of her achievement, Ritu now worries that the family’s financial struggles following the death of its sole breadwinner may stand in the way of her higher education.
