The shutdown of Bangladesh's second submarine cable, SIMUI-5, due to a fiber break in Indonesia's waters has caused widespread internet slowdowns for four days. Repair works by Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (BSCPLC) are expected to conclude by late May. Saidur Rahman, BSCPLC's General Manager, noted administrative delays but assured completion by the third or fourth week of the following month. Meanwhile, efforts to redirect bandwidth to the country's first cable, C-MI-U-4, are underway to alleviate the impact. Similar challenges are reported in other affected nations, prompting exploration of alternative solutions with SIMUI-4.
