Following the incident, a case was filed, leading the Padma Bridge North Police Station to arrest three accused individuals. The arrested suspects, after confessing to the crime in court under Section 164, have been sent to jail. Munshiganj District Police disclosed these details in a press release issued at around 9:30 PM on Thursday, February 20. The arrested individuals have been identified as Md. Jamal Molla (23), Yamin Munshi (19), and Jabbar Sheikh (18). According to the police, the incident came to light after the victim and her husband filed a written complaint at the Padma Bridge North Police Station on Sunday, February 17. In the complaint, they alleged that the woman had been gang-ra*ped by four young men. Upon receiving the complaint, the police promptly visited the location, verified the details, and launched an operation to apprehend the accused. The following day, on Monday, law enforcement arrested Jamal Molla from the banks of the Padma River. Based on the information he provided, the police were able to arrest the other two accused, Yamin and Jabbar. Munshiganj Superintendent of Police, Muhammad Shamsul Alam Sarkar, stated that during police interrogation and their testimony in court, the accused detailed the sequence of events that led to the crime. According to their statements, the victim had been waiting at the old Mawa Ferry Ghat for a boat to take her to her husband’s house when the accused, Abu Bakar Siddique and Jamal Molla, offered her a ride on their trawler. As they proceeded, the other two accused, Yamin and Jabbar, also boarded the boat. Around 7:30 PM, taking advantage of the secluded location on the river, the perpetrators intimidated the victim and took her to the isolated Domrakhali Char in the Padma River, where all four of them sexually assaulted her. Later, at around 9:00 PM, they abandoned her near the old Coast Guard station in Mawa, threatening her to remain silent before fleeing the scene. The Superintendent of Police further stated that all three arrested individuals confessed to the crime in court under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code. As part of the investigation, law enforcement has seized the trawler used in the crime along with a geo bag. The victim has undergone a medical examination, and her clothing has been taken as evidence. Authorities have confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing, with efforts underway to apprehend the remaining fugitive accused.
