Rickshaw puller Zainal Abedin supported his family by driving a rickshaw. In 2001, he founded a hospital in the remote village of Tanhashadia in Mymensingh, providing free healthcare to local residents. To fund the hospital, he earned 40,000 Taka in Dhaka and bought 24 decimals of land in his daughter Mamataz’s name. After his death, his son Jahid Hasan initially managed the hospital.

Now, Zainal’s nephew Ashik Mia runs the facility. He said, “My uncle was known for his pure heart. After his death, no donations come in, so my cousin has been financing the hospital on his own to keep my father’s initiative alive.” The hospital operates five days a week, treating 30 to 50 patients daily.

The hospital charges just 10 Taka for a ticket, which covers consultations and medicines. Most patients are women from nearby villages. Afrojia Khatun from Fuliamari said, “My uncle did a lot for the village. He built a hospital, and many people are surviving after getting medicine.”
