Former social welfare minister Dr. Dipu Moni has been arrested and remanded for questioning. Dipu Moni, who has held the responsibilities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Education and Social Welfare for 11 years, is accused of corruption in five private universities in Bangladesh. She was involved in everything from secondary school teachers to university VC appointments, taking a bribe of two crores for appointing the VC. The saying 'Give two crores, become a VC' was an 'open secret' during his time. Dipu Moni and her brother Dr. Jawadur Rahim Wadud Tipu, who controlled everything through shadow offices in the capital, created many controversies and became involved in corruption.

Dipu Moni and her brother Tipu established a huge empire in the recruitment business during her time as Education Minister. She charged 2 crore tk for appointing a VC in a mid-tier government university and 50 lakh tk for appointing a principal in a government college.
