The order was given by Judge Swapan Kumar Sarkar on Wednesday, September 11. Shah AMS Kibria was killed in a grenade attack during a public meeting in Baidyer Bazaar, Habiganj Sadar Upazila, on January 27, 2005. Following the incident, a case was filed against Babar, former Sylhet City Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury, and several BNP leaders. Ariful Haque appeared in court, but Babar, currently jailed in Dhaka, was not present when the bail was granted. Babar was initially arrested on May 28, 2007, after the caretaker government took over following the BNP's term. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against him in January 2008, accusing him of amassing illegal wealth and concealing assets. Babar declared assets worth 6.77 crore taka, but was accused of hiding an additional 7.05 crore taka. He faces multiple charges, including a death sentence in a separate case related to the August 21 grenade attack.
